2012 JAN Alexandra Garden Trail, Berlayer Creek and Bukit Chermin Boardwalk, Labrador Nature and Coastal Walk, Singapore

10 January 2012, Tuesday

Firstly, a happy New Year 2012 to all my WordPresskistan and Flickristan readers as we are half way through the month of January.

With the opening of the new Labrador Nature and Coastal walk at a cost of S$10 million dollars, it allows easy access from the recently opened Labrador MRT station to the Labrador Nature Reserve beaches.

Unfortunately, the Labrador Villa food centre was demolished a few years ago and replaced with an open space. All the cheap makan places are being removed to be replaced by upmarket eateries. You can grab some food at the newly opened Alexandra Retail Centre (ARC), PSA Building, before heading down to the Labrador beaches.

It is an easy walk from the Alexandra Garden Trail which is near to the Alexandra Arch, pass the Labrador MRT station and the start of the Berlayer Creek Boardwalk  and reaching the Labrador beaches, the Bukit Chermin Boardwalk build along the coast lines.

From the Bukit Chermin Boardwalk, you can now walk all the way to Vivocity shopping centre or the Sentosa Boardwalk.

Happy walking.

2011 DEC Standard Chartered Marathon, Singapore

041211 (Sun)

Firstly, my condolences to the family and friends of Singaporean marathon runner Malcolm Sng Wei Ren who collapsed at the finishing line at the Padang after his 21 kilometre run and passed away in the hospital. Rest in peace.

This is my second year taking photos of the Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore and I find that this year, the marathon was much more quieter with lesser supporters and photographers althought there was an increase in the number of marathon runners from 60 000 to 65 000.

It was a cool and cloudy day in the morning when the first male runner started to emerge, Charles Mwai Kanyao from Kenya who was a dark horse as the organisers did not know about him.

I also saw the first female runner Irene Jerotich Kosgei from Kenya and Singapore’s men runner Mok Ying Ren. However, I missed seeing Singapore’s woman runner  Anne Date Qi Hui.

Japanese runner Y Hashimoto really made my day, wearing a blue sequin dress and an orange crab head gear weaved like a lontong

Congratulations to all the marathon runners who completed the Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore 2011.
