12 December 2012 Wednesday
I lived near Beach Road in the 1980’s when I was still in primary school.
I am not sure of what these shophouses used to sell as they were already closed in the 1980’s and was already in bad shape.
The restoration and conversion works from shophouses into a hotel started in 2008 and ended in 2009, the building was painted white.
Nothing happened in 2010 and the only news I could gather was that it was going to be named Sanctuary Hotel. The building was painted light yellow and the side windows were painted gold.
In 2011 the poster of the Sanctuary Hotel was posted on the front glass door of the hotel.
In late 2012, it was painted light brown and the side windows were painted brown.
Just found out early this month, December 2012, the signage Hotel Clover was put up on the building. I have no idea when will the hotel be opened for business.
Coming down to the Arab Street area frequently, I have documented the progress of the restoration and conversion of these shophouses into a hotel.
